About Aging Parents | Kathy Quan

While searching for interesting blogs about senior living, I came across About Aging Parents, by Kathy Quan, RN, BSN, PHN.  She tackles some really difficult subjects and presents her readers with options and information about aging and many of the issues that come along with the process.  I highly suggest that if you have not read it, do so!

In February 2012, Kathy posts about difficult issues pertaining to End of life decisions, advanced directives and other subjects.

How Can Hospice Help | Applegate HomeCare & Hospice

Hospice care is for people who are in the last stages of a terminal disease or illness.  Hospice is not just for cancer patients.  There are many non-cancer diagnoses that are covered under the hospice benefits.

The goal of hospice is to relieve pain and other symptoms experienced as well as enhance the quality of remaining life by keeping you as alert and comfortable as possible in a familiar environment with family and friends.

Another goal of hospice care is to help caregivers manage all the challenges and tasks involved in caring for a dying loved one.

If you would like more information about Hospice, you can contact them by visiting them on the web, just click here.  The listing is also found in the Links column to the right of this article.  Information in this post came directly from information provided by Applegate HomeCare & Hospice.

Compliments of Alzheimer's Association

What is Alzheimer's?

Alzheimer's is a disease of the brain that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior.  It is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States.

What to expect?

You may want to offer assistance to a family living with Alzheimer's but worry you'll say or do the wrong thing.  It is important to remember that they are the same people they were before the diagnosis.

Because family members often feel alone and disconnected from friends, need assistance or a break but hesitate to ask, struggle to run errands or complete daily tasks, suffer from stress and welcome a good listener it is important to create a support network.

What is a support network?

A support network may take on a great many faces.  There are so many outreach care coordinating agencies in your local areas, there are Assisted Living Homes and support meetings to help you and your loved one live with Alzheimer's and/or Dementia.
