Nutrition | Health | Wellness

Because almost 50% of our lives revolves around food, we here at Beehive Homes Assisted Living feel that it is important to discuss nutrition, and keep you updated with the meals that are provided by our Executive Chef James.

The other day during a routine visit to courtyard 4, Chef was cutting up fresh vegetables for the evenings salad, as usual my camera is slung over a shoulder, so I took the above pictures to share with you.

Key Nutritional Tips for Seniors

We all know that nutrition is important, this becomes even more important for Seniors as
they do not eat as much as they used to.  Since seniors do not eat as much as they used to it becomes difficult to gain nutrients from a variety of foods.

Quantity does not equal Quality.
Meaning that it becomes more difficult to make sure seniors
are getting the right nutrition.

Of course it is always important to discuss your personal nutritional needs with your doctor or dietitian before making changes to your diet.

Eating fresh fruits and vegetables are an essential way to get nutrient rich substances in the diet, also providing much needed fiber.

Sue Rodwell Williams author of Essentials of Nutrition and Diet Therapy states that your diet includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, legumes and healthy sources of protein such as poultry, lean meat, fish, tofu and dairy products. Many whole foods can be easily prepared, which is important for those of limited mobility. Lastly, since good health and detoxification is dependent on being adequately hydrated, it is also important to drink six to eight glasses of water every day.
